Welcome to Troop 234: Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Today

Our Scout troop is proud to be a member of Scouting America. we help young people build confidence, leadership, character, and lifelong skills through adventure, service, and teamwork. Our program gives youth the opportunity to explore the outdoors, develop friendships, learn responsibility, and grow into capable, community-minded leaders. From camping and hiking to service projects and hands-on learning, Scouting provides experiences that challenge, inspire, and prepare young people for success both now and in the future.

Parents and their young men and women (ages 11 to 18) are warmly invited to visit one of our Troop meetings and see the adventure for themselves! During the school year, Troop 234 meets every Monday evening from 7pm to 8:30 pm whenever the Desoto County MS schools are in session. During the summer we meet most Mondays except for the week when we are at summer camp. Contact us using the contact form for specific summer dates.

What happens at a Troop Meeting

A typical Scouting America troop meeting is a fun, youth-led gathering where Scouts learn new skills, plan upcoming activities, and work together as a team. Meetings often begin with an opening ceremony, followed by instruction and hands-on activities covering topics such as camping, first aid, cooking, navigation, outdoor skills, leadership, and personal preparedness. Scouts meet in patrols to plan events and practice teamwork, while older youth leaders guide the meeting and help mentor younger Scouts. Games, challenges, and friendly competitions keep meetings engaging and enjoyable. Troop meetings provide opportunities for Scouts to advance in rank, build confidence, develop leadership abilities, and strengthen friendships while preparing for future outdoor adventures and service projects.

Service to others is a core principle of Scouting America. Throughout the year, Scouts participate in a wide variety of community service projects that benefit schools, parks, churches, civic organizations, veterans, and local communities. Service activities may include park and trail cleanups, food drives, flag ceremonies, assisting at community events, conservation projects, and collecting supplies for those in need. Scouts also plan and lead larger service initiatives, including Eagle Scout service projects, which provide meaningful and lasting improvements to their communities. Through these experiences, Scouts develop leadership, responsibility, citizenship, and a lifelong commitment to helping others while making a positive difference in the world around them.

Scouting America’s outdoor program provides youth with exciting opportunities for adventure, personal growth, and leadership development. Typical troop activities include monthly weekend camping trips where Scouts learn outdoor skills, teamwork, and self-reliance while enjoying activities such as hiking, fishing, campfire programs, and service projects. Each summer, many Scouts attend a week-long Scouting America summer camp featuring a wide variety of activities including swimming, boating, shooting sports, climbing and rappelling, nature study, and other challenging outdoor adventures. Through these experiences, Scouts build self-confidence, develop leadership skills, learn responsibility, and create lasting friendships while having fun in a safe and supportive environment.
